Dane Fine Art will start the new year by presenting more than 1,000 lots of paintings, photographs, posters, prints, sculptures, and carvings in its upcoming Luxor Sale of Modern & Contemporary Art. Dane Fine Art is celebrating its 43rd year with artworks from prominent figures like Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Julian Opie, Mr. Brainwash, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Louis Icart, and many others. The auction house is also offering in-house framing and shipping to anywhere in the world. The sale will be held live on January 26, 2023. Collectors can view the complete catalog and place bids by visiting Bidsquare. Sacred Bull, a rare oil on canvas by Neil Gavin Welliver, is a leading lot in the Luxor Sale of Modern & Contemporary Art (lot #226; estimate: USD 40,000 – $60,000). The piece is hand-signed by Welliver, an artist known for his large-format landscape paintings and woodcuts that depict profound yet unassuming views of birches, streams, and evergreens in rural Maine. Even in the frigid Maine winters, Welliver went trekking into the forest to make plein air paintings. Welliver was an American artist who pioneered the Contemporary Realism art movement in the 1950s, affiliated with the American painters Alex Katz and Fairfield Porter, who painted to translate the atmosphere around them. He received his MFA from the Yale School of Art. His works are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others.Neil Welliver – Sacred BullWatch Out! (Large Blue), a limited edition of three by Mr. Brainwash, is also available in the Luxor Sale of Modern & Contemporary Art (lot #16; estimate: $15,500 – $21,500). ‘프리즈 서울’에서 관람객들이 서도호 작가의 작품을 보고 있다. ⓒ허지영한국의 가을이 미술과 함께 열렸다. 미술품을 사고파는 대형 장터가 열리면서 가을 빛은 조금 더 짙어졌고, 채도 역시 높아졌다. 코로나19 팬데믹 여파가 남아있지만, 세계적인 미술장터를 눈으로 확인하려는 이목과 발길이 이어졌다.세계적인 아트페어 브랜드 ‘프리즈’(Frieze)가 아시아 최초로 서울에서 첫 선을 보였고, 한국 대표 아트페어인 ‘키아프’(Kiaf)가 동시에 열렸다. 두 아트페어는 지난 2일 서울 코엑스에서 함께 개막했고, ‘프리즈 서울’은 5일, ‘키아프 서울’은 6일 폐막했다. ‘소문난 잔치에 먹을 것 없다’는 한국 속담과 달리 잔치는 풍성했고 다채로웠다. 두 아트페어에 국내외 갤러리 274개가 부스를 차렸고, 키아프의 부대 행사였던 ‘키아프 플러스’까지 포함하면 참여 갤러리는 350개에 달했다. 아시아는 물론 한국에서 열린 아트페어 가운데 최대 규모를 자랑했다. 이들 아트페어에는 관람객들이 북적였고 떠들썩하게 진행됐다. 관람객은 7만여 명(중복 방문 제외)으로 추산됐다. 주말에는 관람객이 몰려서 안전을 위해 티켓 판매를 중단했을 정도로 인산인해를 이뤘다.매출 규모도 역대급이었다. 프리즈는 6천억 원이상, 키아프는 7백억 원대 미술품을 판 것으로 추정되고 있다. 두 아트페어는 거래 규모를 공개하지 않지만, 세계 각지에서 찾아온 컬렉터와 미술애호가로 문전성시를 이룬 만큼 성공적인 세일즈가 이뤄졌을 것으로 보고 있다. ‘프리즈 서울’은 뉴욕과 LA보다 매출이 늘어난 것으로 추정되고, ‘키아프 서울’도 지난해(650억 원)를 웃돈 것으로 예상됐다.‘프리즈 서울’의 면면은 화려했다. 전시 구성을 보면, 주요 갤러리가 부스를 차린 ‘메인 세션’, 근현대 거장들 걸작으로 꾸민 ‘프리즈 마스터즈’, 아시아 갤러리와 작가를 소개한 ‘포커스 아시아’로 꾸며졌다. 특히 프리즈 마스터즈에는 파블로 피카소(Pablo Picasso), 앙리 마티스, 로이 리히텐슈타인, 장 미셸 바스키아, 데이비드 호크니, 키스 해링, 에곤 실레 등이 집결돼 관람객의 큰 호응을 얻었다. 이 같은 강력한 라인업에 힘입어 유명작가 작품들이 속속 팔렸다. 게르하르트 리히터의 ‘촛불’이 1500만 달러(약 207억 원)에 팔린 것을 비롯해  조지 콘도의 ‘붉은 초상화’가 280만 달러(약 38억 원), 마크 브래드퍼드(브래드포)의 ‘오버패스’는 180만 달러(약 24억 원), 게오르그 바젤리츠의 ‘정오의 엑스레이’가 120만 유로(약 16억 3000만 원)에 나갔다. ‘프리즈 서울’ 출품작 중 가장 비싼 작품(4500만 달러)이었던 파블로 피카소의 ‘방울이 달린 빨간 베레모를 쓴 여인’은 사진을 찍으려는 관람객들로 북새통을 이뤘다.올해로 21주년을 맞은 키아프 서울은 상대적으로 프리즈보다 적은 관람객이 찾았다. 하지만

The July 14 auction include such exemplary pieces as a mid-5th-century BCE Greek Attic red-figure skyphos (drinking cup) painted with a charming owl motif. Its estimate is $4,500-$6,500. A 4th century BCE Greek Apulian red-figure pottery oinochoe with a trefoil pouring spout displays a scene that appears to include Aphrodite (Roman Venus) with another draped and elaborately coifed woman, and a nude, winged Eros, who holds a mirror in which Aphrodite can admire herself.
